Please give me some feedback on this

Post by sinbad »

Hi All,
I'm putting a cd together for my wife and need some feedback on the mix on some of the songs. I am working through headphones so the balance may be a bit off.
First one: Who knows where the time goes (A tribute to the lovely Sandy Denny, who left us much too soon.)

I use opera as standard. Funny, one of the guys on the Band in a Box forum could access them ok, but maybe that is because he has a dropbox account.

I just tried IE and got the same message as you
"Error (403)
It seems you don't belong here! You should probably sign in. Check out our Help Center and forums for help, or head back to home. "
Maybe dropbox doesn't like FF or IE

It would seem that the problem is old age. I got the file share function wrong.
I wonder if the other 30 odd viewers got the same results as you. Unfortunately no-one bothered to reply.

Yeah, I got the error as well. I'm going to try the new link now...:)

Download worked......nice job.....I'd cut back the reverb on the vocal, but that's just me.....btw listened with my M-Audio AV 30 powered monitors...:)

It worked this time. :)

You got a good early-60's vibe goin'. If you're going for late 60's, I agree with cidbil - cut back on the vocal reverb.

Just learned that Sandy Denny was the only guest vocalist to ever appear on a Led Zeppelin studio album - "The Battle of Evermore".

I've done a remix and taken off some of the echo. I don't know where the echo came from, probably when I put two mono takes together. I remember Sandy Denny from the folk clubs way back in the mid 60's before she became famous.

I'm hearing a strange phase sound on the vocals now - in the remix.

Could be the result of combining 2 tracks that are very slightly misaligned.

I think the first mix is better.

Thanks Saz I'll look into that. I'm off for a couple of days so it will take a while.

Saz, I can't hear the phase issue, (probably because I'm half deaf), can you give me the times where it appears, or are you hearing it all the time?

It's all the time sinbad. It clears up (without too much tonal change to the vocals) when switched to mono.

Actually, I think the song sounds cool in mono. You might try doing that with everything except the percussion track(make it stereo) - just for kicks and giggles.

I think your vocal is quite nice btw. 8)

I just learned that it is advisable to do the first mix in mono to get the rough eq's right and the instrument separation. This should allow more space for each instrument. Then go to stereo and do the fine mixing. Sounds like good advice.
