Tip of the week 9: Track Presets

Post by Support »

Track Presets

You can create a preset of a track by dragging the track to shelf's Mixer Presets section. The cool thing is that it also creates a new audio/midi file when the preset is used.

If you typically use the same setup for certain instruments you can make a track preset to get this setup quickly.

Let's make a preset for an electric piano track:

- Add a new track with a MIDI file called EPiano.mid
- Load the Pro Plus edition's Electric Piano in the synth slot. Any other synth you'd rather use will also do.
- Add, for example, a Tremolo and a Compressor effect in the track's effect slots. Now tweak the knobs so it sounds the way you want.
- Now drag the track and drop it on the shelf's Mixer Presets section.

Now there's an EPiano preset on the shelf. If you drag it and drop it on the rack (where the mixer sections are) you get a track with the synth and the effects. And also an empty MIDI file, ready to be recorded.

How Does one Back Up the presets?
Are they stored in the project file?
Can they be shared between projects?

The presets live in this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\MtStudio\Presets

where yourname is your Windows username.

This example is for Windows XP, it will probably be a bit different on other versions of Windows.

You can just back up the whole folder.

The presets aren't related to the project, so you can use them any time you want.
