Hard drive problem

Post by axomat »

Hi

I use two hard discs, and have done for a couple of years without problems. Now c drive works fine, but my z drive does not not. When I play back from C MTS is perfect (what else would you expect :-) but when I play back from Z the sound is really jittery.

I have done a defrag (it took 2 days) and I have done an error check with no change so I have now run out of ideas... can anyone suggest anything to consider or even how to diagnose the problem.

Thanks

Hi axomat
Make sure that your cables going to the hard disc z are in perfect condition and that there is no electrical wire sitting on your usb or firewire cables. Also if possible raise them off the floor, carpet can sometime cause static which brings glitches in the audio.
Hopes this is any help.

Sorry I posted too quickly, a google of pio and dma shows the answer, Windoze automatically changes the interface for a hard drive to the slower pio if it thinks there is a problem, changing it back again solves the problem.

Now MTS is sweet once again, phew!
