QUESTION FROM SINGLE MOM/ PLEAE HELP?

I have written a song and my 20 year old son has written the music. He is a singer and guitarist. We need to find the most efficient software to record our song, Please help this mom become educated on what to buy, what to try, how and where to obtain the minimum , AT THE LOWEST COST,that we need to accomplish this. PLEASE??

I DO NOT KNOW IF i AM EVEN ASKING A "PERSON " THIS QUESTION. iF SO, I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR OBVIOUSLY, EDUCATED ANSWER.
