Creating and using samples

Post by firefly »

Hello MTS users. I have a question about creating and using samples. I am attempting to sample and use brass/horn samples that are free to use

http://www.newyorkbrass.com/download-fr ... mples.html

from the free MP3 files they provide. My question(s): how to do I actually create a file that MTS will use from an MP3 file? I've read the MTS instructions but I "just don't get it." I think I might be making it harder than it really is. For those of you who have actually done it, are you satisfied with your samples?

Another question: does MTS allow you change, via MIDI, the pitch of each sample on the fly? In other words, if I am lying down MIDI data via a keyboard with different notes, and then apply the sample file, will the all the pitches be changed as they play?

Sorry if these seem like basic questions, but I 've never understood sampling or how it works.

Thanks.

Let's start as simple as possible:
-add a MIDI track
-import your sample file, so it ends up in an audio track
-open the audio track's editor, and select the part you're interested in (you can probably just click Select All).
-now drag the selected part to the MIDI track's Instrument Slot (AKA "the first effect slot").
-click 'Yes'

Now you've created a single-sample sampler patch. Engage the MIDI track's Rec button and play your MIDI keyboard!

Multi-sample sampler patches can't be created like this, so you'll have to use the Patch Editor (see http://www.multitrackstudio.com/patcheditor.php).
