Breaking up MIDI instruments into separate MIDI tracks.

Post by dea »

Hello. I'm so excited about finally purchasing MTS.

I'm getting started on my first project and need some input from you all.

I downloaded a MIDI song, but all instruments seem to be in one MIDI song track. I'd like to apply each instrument into their own track so I can apply specific effects to instruments independently.

My first guess would be to create MIDI tracks and copy-n-paste ( select all ) the contents of each instrument into it's corresponding newly created MIDI track.

I'd be hard pressed to believe there is a more automated way of doing this since these are pre-made MIDI files, but I'd thought I would ask.

Thanks,
Demir

Posting an update.

Copying the entire bass stream from the collective MIDI track into a single MIDI track dedicated to bass was a breeze.

Will continue with this simple approach, unless I hear there is trick up someone's sleeve.

Thanks,
Demir

You can click the track's name box and choose 'Split Streams'.

Thank you so much. I so appreciate the short cuts.
The manual approach of copy-n-paste worked well. I was able to do a few songs in less than an hour. For the long way of doing this, it was rather pleasant and I was able to gain a bit of intuitive sense in the way of MTS edits MIDI and applies instruments and EQ to each track.

Thanks for the great work!!!
