Drum Quantizing Help

Hello! I'm a drummer, and have started to use MTS to edit midi drum parts that I create on my KAT Percussion electronic kit.

I have been experimenting to figure out a natural sounding method of quantization. My theory is that the kick drum sounds correct hard quantized, 100% on the grid. However, I would like the option to correct other timing (snare, toms, and cymbals) more subtly.

I realize that MTS allows you to set the resolution from 5% to 100%, and should move the notes closer to the grid incrementally based on that option. I am finding that no matter what percentage I select, MTS is appears to put the notes exactly on the grid. Am I missing something? It seems that selecting 30% would just move the notes 30% closer to grid, correct?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,
Mark

That's correct, and I'm not aware of any problems with that. What version of MultitrackStudio do you use?

Thanks for the reply, Giel! I'm using the latest version (8.5). Question: If you check "humanize" when quantize has also been selected, does the humanize function still affect the midi? I'm interested in maintaining the velocities of my drumming, but simply tightening things up to the grid after performance. Please advise on what you think the best method for going about this would be.

Yes, it quantizes first end then applies humanize.

That's exactly what quantize does. I don't think the Humanize feature is of any help in your situation.
