MIDI and QWERTY keyboard

Is there a way to assign keys from the QWERTY keyboard to MIDI notes? Example: assign keys to a drum set. This would allow an individual to play drums along with a song to create a MIDI track without actually having drums to play.

To follow this up, I'm trying to build MIDI drum tracks based on original loops. Is there anything VST wise within MTS that's similar to a drum replacer/drum extractor similar to GrooveExtractor2. Tools like this take the sample audio and builds MIDI tracks. The VST triggers the MIDI instrument. If not, any recommendations? Thank you.
