Things you need to do when starting a new home garden

If you have a backyard or an empty space in your house, you might want to make it more beautiful by adding a garden. To start one is not difficult, but it not easy if you want a magnificent garden. Below is a 9-step-guide of things you need to know before starting a garden.

1.What do you want to plant?

First things first, you need to know what kind of garden you want to start. Is it a herb and vegetable garden for everyday family meals? Or just elegant and colorful flowers? Each type has different ways to maintain and grow. You should also take note of your regional zone, as some plants thrive in cold areas while others will require a hot and humid atmosphere.

Unless you are a veteran gardener, it is best to first start small, then expand it as you gain more experience.

2.Choose the correct area

Most plants will require a place with lots of sunlight, so it is a crucial step to choose the correct area for your plants. If your lot somehow gets too much shade, don't worry, as there are a few plants that love this, like ferns and hostas.

Also, it is recommended to start on a flatland. Although you can start on a slope, it will take a lot of effort and money to finish a garden this way. Another thing is to check if there are any windbreaks around, either on your neighbor's house or your own, as they can help and protect weaker floras from the wind.

3.Prepare your garden bed

Now that you’ve got the area where you want to plant, it is time to prepare the soil. First, get rid of the sod in the area; you can do it in two ways. One is to cut it out directly and the other is smother the grass with newspaper. The former requires more labor while the latter just needs some time. You can check the Internet for more details on how to do this.

4.Improve the soil

As you might know, your plants will grow more quickly and produce better results in good soil, so you need to improve it. There are 2 paths to proceed. One requires you to add organic matter, including compost, decayed leaves, etc., when you dig a new bed for your plants. The other is placing the organic matter on the surface and waiting. It will rot into humus and mixed into the soil, thanks to earthworms.

5.Work the soil

If you don’t do this step, your new plants will have a hard time penetrating through the soil, which lowers their growth rate, as they can’t access water and nutrients easily. You can do this by either tilling or digging.

Tilling is utilizing a tiller to cultivate the soil. You can find the best products on Amazon, or you can check some other top review pages to know which tiller is suitable for your garden. This method is great if you want to fix your garden on a large scale. However, it is not recommended because this method will disturb the microorganisms and earthworms within the ground. Too much, and your soil might become a barren land, so be careful.

Digging is better if your garden is small. Remember to only do it when your soil is moist enough to be formed into a ball but breaks apart when dropped. When the ground is in a suitable condition, use a sharp spade or spading fork to turn the soil gently while mixing in the organic matter.

6.Buy your plants

Now that the ground is prepared thoroughly, you can start to pick your chosen floras to plant. Choose whatever you fancy or take your time to pick carefully, as long as the chosen plants can adapt to your garden and climate.

7.Sow the seeds

Each plant has their own preference in terms of temperature. Unless your choice of seeds can tolerate the cold, do not plant them before the frost in your area has passed. Also, read the instructions, information about planting time, spacing, etc. written on the seed package before planting.

8.Water the plants correctly

After you have finished sowing the seeds, you must water them frequently. The amount and frequency will depend on your type of soil, climate, and current weather, making up your water schedule. Another trick is to feel the soil 3 to 4 inches below the surface. If it’s dry, then it’s a perfect time to water.

9.Maintain your garden

After you have made a new garden, you need to maintain it. Be it weeding, getting rid of pests, or placing mulch, you have to do them all. Make sure to pull out the weeds before they mature, as if you don't, you will have a hard time later on because weeds will grow and expand quickly, stealing nutrients from your plants. Pests are a bane in your garden. Unless you want to see rotting fruit, half-eaten vegetables, etc., you had better check your garden frequently and get rid of all the pests you come across. By placing mulch, you are not only enriching your soil but also preventing weed seeds from germinating.

Starting a new garden can be hard, while maintaining them can be harder, but they will provide more color for your yard. Keep on practicing, and you will have the magnificent garden of your dreams. Jamstix causes a memory access violation as soon as it starts processing audio. It does this for quite some time already, unfortunately.

I recommend you ask Rayzoon for help, they should be able to find out what's going wrong.

I contacted Rayzoon several times and his solution after a while was switching to another DAW which I did tried it out of curiosity but I totally didn't like the layout as well many other things. I myself I don't like other complicated DAWS. MTS is my tool and I get things done fast and easy so Jamstix doesn't work well that's to bad for them I've got other ways of getting drums tracks with great sounds. Long lives MTS :D
