Sound of Silence

Post by Drdrdaddeo »

Here is a new MTS for ipad copy recording that only took two days from start to finish. The music was played back from a free internet downloaded .mid file after editing the individual multitrack midi sequences to correct obvious rhythm and notational errors. The sound generator patches were derived from IAA loaded Sample Tank (12 string guitar, Acoustic Drum Kit), and MultitrackStudio Instruments (fretless bass and electric guitar Jazz). The 12- and 6-string guitar tracks were panned left and right and an MTS chorus affect was applied to both, providing a crisp ringing intonation that was well-separated but overlapping. Some reverb was applied to the stereo drum track, but the bass track was dry. The high register vocal line (shure SM58 mic) was panned left, and the low register vocal line (Apogee MiC) was panned right. Both vocal tracts were vocal tuned, vintage compressed and given slight chamber reverb. Master compression 2 and limiting were applied to the final multitrack mixdown, yielding an overall 0db volume with excellent headroom. The final .wav mix was exported to Audioshare, rendered to a lossless .m4a file and uploaded to Soundcloud.

Excellent work. I'm most impressed with the vocal tracks. Both are difficult because of their range.
