Zoom f8n only 2-channel to iOS

Post by tmon »

I was really interested in this for an 8-channel front end for MTS Pro and my iPad, but the manual says it is on 2-track into iOS devices. Disappointing :(

The zoomf8n seems to be a multifunctional, high quality, stand alone eight track digital recorder primarily designed for live event multitrack input and subsequent multitrack post-production mixdown. At around $1000, it is a pro-level recording devce with built in pre-and post-production multitrack mixing features. It seems way over-designed to be used simply as a front-end digital mixer for an ipad recording stereo into MTS for iPad. For less than half the price one could simply run the analog stereo output of an inexpensive 12-to-2 analog stage mixer (Mackie, Peavy etc) into a 24bit Presonus Audiobox iTwo and USB it to an ipad running MTS. The 24 bit sound quality of MTS in an ipad is nothing short of amazing, and very competitive with higher end stand alone digital recorders. And its post production effects and mixdown options are legendary. However, as a prosumer home studio level recorder, it is designed to inexpensively record front end mono or stereo input, track by track. The multitrack bells and whistles come primarily during post-production mixdown, where MTS really shows its colors.

Drdrdaddeo, it appears that your assessment of the Zoom F8n is correct (https://zoom-na.com/products/field-vide ... d-recorder). I was originally looking at the Zoom F8N as a replacement for my bulkier live tracking preamp setup...not just as a "live mixdown to two-track". But yeah, the F8n is apparently not designed for that purpose, though I suppose I can simply record the tracks live, then import them into MTS easily enough...

The diversity of Zoom's product line-up is impressive: https://zoom-na.com/products/production ... etrak-l-20
Tascam also has a new answer, but it's too bulky for me....https://tascam.jp/us/product/model_24/top
