MPE and MIDI 2.0 in MultitrackStudio for iPad 4.0

Post by Support »

MultitrackStudio for iPad 4.0 supports MPE and MIDI 2.0 in a way similar to the macOS version which is described here: https://www.multitrackstudio.com/version10.php.

On iPad there are no VST plugins and no Sampler. Virtual MIDI Apps works just like MIDI Output Devices.

Hello,

Midi 2, MPE... all these sorts of things...
One more time, MTS is in advance... where is Cubasis, where is Auria? where are they all? In the distance.
Maybe one day a little sampler?
Giel, you're the best.

There's no question that the success of MIDI 2.0 will rely on developers like Giel that embrace and exploit the new features.

With MIDI 1.0, there were a few key features that went under-used and under-appreciated. The three that come to mind for me are polyphonic aftertouch, release-velocity, and 14-bit controls. Keyboards with polyAT, release-velocity have existed for decades, but synths and DAWs have spotty compatibility. Controls that can send at 14-bit resolution are all but non-existent- unless they are rotary encoders (as opposed to pots). This has little to do with how useful these things might be, I suspect it has more to do with the ratio of interest to its impact on the price-point of the controller.

Perhaps we're hoping for a bit of a MIDI control renaissance in the next few years, where prices come down on keyboards with more high-end control features (the Osmose looks amazing in that regard). And we'll see more DAWs with MPE and 2.0 features.

If MIDI 2.0 becomes a somewhat boutique/niche protocol, on higher end products, we can hope that the buzz about it catches on. There does seem to be plenty of potential there.

Yes, Giel is brilliant and way ahead of the curve on this!!!! Cheers!
