I have an older Yamaha Tx-81Z Rack Mount multitimbral FM sound module that I’ve used for years to routinely play back 4 different tracs/channels of music simultaneously (outputted from my 8 track QX5 FD sequencer). I am now trying to use MTS for all my new compositions. If I have four different tracks/channels of new MIDI music recorded in MTS using MTSI Sounds to generate a draft multitimbral song, can I subsequently play back all four tracks into my TX-81Z simultaneously and get the same kind of multitimbral playback?
Thanks,
Ken Hardy
Multitimbral Synth Use with MTS?
Re: Multitimbral Synth Use with MTS?
Yes, this should work. Just replace the MTSi instances with External Instruments. Then make sure the MIDI channels and Programs are OK (the program number goes in the Bank : Prog box.
A quick peek at the tx81 manual brought up some program change settings, you might need to look at that to get the programs to work.

Re: Multitimbral Synth Use with MTS?
Thanks Giel, you’re the best.
I was recently GIVEN a superb old Yamaha MU-80 module. It is also polyphonic and highly multitimbral, with over 600 amazing 18-bit instrument sounds. It should work with MTS similarly (but more expansively) than my old Tx81Z, and with much higher quality sound. I am in the process of rerecording my entire back catalog of multitrack original and copy music for live performance purposes. A quick stage setup with the MU-80, my ipad, my presonus interface, and my ALESIS G88 USB keyboard, should provide me a compact stage rig complete with unlimited MIDI and Audio backing tracks. To this end your assistance is proving invaluable.
Thanks,
Ken Hardy/Drdrdaddeo.
