feature request, accomodate multi out apps?

Post by Littlewoodg »

Hi Mr Bremmers
hello from Iceland

There are new-ish AUv3 apps that offer a multi-out feature, This from one instance which proliferates the same GUI across 8 lanes.groove boxes in which each of 8 tracks can be midi programmed separately, and each track outputs it's own audio.

I don't think MTS can do this yet, unless I'm missing something. Is there already this capability? The likely work around is to load 8 instances of the same project, and program tracks of the project one by one in the separate lanes. Laborious...

What do you think?

The outputs are available as sidechains. So you can add an audio track, load a Dynamics effect, pick an AU output as sidechain source, and finally engage the Mon button so the sidechain signal goes to the Dynamics effect output. This works during playback, but not while you're recording the AU.

You're asking for multiple MIDI inputs too, right? I doubt that's a good idea. Having an instrument per track is cleaner. The desktop version can do this for historical reasons. It has been deliberately left out in the iPad version. The UI wouldn't even fit the screen properly.

Hi
I tried the workaround and when i set up, i put the the multi-timbral multi-audio out instrument in the first track, a midi track. This instrument sends 8 separate audio outs

i opened three audio tracks to test, placed the Dynamics plug on each, selected “Mon”, set side chain to the first 3 outs the AUv3 puts out.

I set all three audio tracks to record and pressed the main record control.

Immediately upon record start all but one of the record buttons on the audio tracks shut off.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Maybe an alternative feature would be to allow each audio track to select one of the AUv3 8 audio outs (on the left, where other selection of sources happen under the track record button) without the intervening Dynamics plug.

The “midi programming” of the track would happen within the one instance of the plug gui. It has its own set of the 8 timelines…No midi programming would be done in the MTS midi track, where the AUv3 sits. Only one gui will be needed…placed in that midi track the rest of the tracks would be audio, 1 each for the 8 outputs of the AUv3

You're not supposed to record anything. You should just play it.

The desktop manual covers the topic at the end of this page BTW.: https://multitrackstudio.com/sidechainrouting.php

It assigns the rest of audio device input channels the the rest of the tracks.

Hi Mr Bremmers,
Thank you:
The sidechaining workaround is indeed useful for listening to the separated tracks of the multitimbral instruments 8 tracks of audio output.

What I’m hoping for is a way to record the audio from these separate tracks, much the same way as practice mode, or routing from the master track works for single tracks.

Maybe audiobus will help accomplish this.

You can record a single 'fake' track (with the a Dynamics effect) using the record-master option if you solo the track, I think?

Hi Mr B.
Unfortunately the use case is to record the 8 separate audio tracks coming out of the app at once. Sugarbytes Dialekt, BeepStreet’s Drambo, cem olkay’s Speaking of witch are examples of apps that output 8+ tracks of audio. I’m hoping to bring these home to MTS…
Thanks for your consideration of the feature suggestion
