Homer Harris - Remembered 1951 (WSM Broadcast)

Post by meveridge »

Homer Harris was my wifes uncle. Back in the 40's and 50's he worked the then known "Western Circuit", performed at many occasions, and was as a supporting actor in several western movies. Homer died in 1998 at the age age of 89 . . . .

Kind of dated material . . .

This is a full cut from the original broadcast in 1951 at WSM Nashville, TN. Man, have we come a long ways since then . . .

This is cool! I love the original broadcast. So was it his radio show or was he a guest? It sounds like he does the Martha White Flour spot as well. "...'cause it's good...!"

He was a host for a few of the shows back in the early 50's for the Martha White show at WSM. Back then the host would do the commercial along with the rest of the group. Kind of like watching the Grand Ole Opre when commercial time comes. The Host will do the commercial live on stage.

They would pre-record the shows on a 78 rpm record. He kept the recordings after the show was aired. Some of the things he got to do was sing for Shirley Temple for one of her birthdays. Must had been an exciting time for Homer, he was always a happy sort of fellow . . .

:D

Cheers,

Mike
