windmills of your mind

Post by simeon psimian »

this is a cover, but i did write some extra words for it, & slightly increase the amount of reggae & klezmer influence in it: http://soundcloud.com/simeon-psimian/wi ... mind-cover

I like the metal klangs and the water droplets and other sound effects. Did you record those with a portable recorder? Did you play the violin also?

i got the noises from the excellent freesound.org website & play them through the mts sample player (except the spinning coins which are just pasted in & repeated to fill the section), they are all free to use on a creative commons license & i need to credit the people who recorded them, i should still have notes of who they are. The snare is something being hit with a shovel & the hihat is a coin landing. the violin is a free sample (i can look up what if you want) & i just write the notes in to the mts midi editor in pianorolll view. The only real instruments are voice & bass guitar.

here are the credits for propriety's sake: noises from www.freesound.org: Cartoony_Clangs_hit_with_spade (snare) by Timbre, coin_falls (hihat) by skynproduction, breaking_glass & spinning coins by Robinhood76; also uses stavi_violin (http://www.sf2midi.com/soundfonts/file- ... -3994.html) & claire fitch cello (http://www.fitchsounds.com/freestuff.php) samples

Love your music Simeon, it is always refreshing and full of surprises. The backing reminded me of the feeling of standing next to a Jean Tinguely sculpture in full swing, brilliant. On my headphones the vocal was a bit quiet. I think a boost and some reverb would do it good and give it that creepy Vincent Price effect.
