Quickly Import Free Drum Loops Into MTS IPAD

Post by KenHardy »

Found a neat way to get free drum loops at any tempo into MTS iPad (providing you have AudioShare). Simply use the Smart Drums instrument of GarageBand to create any desired drum loop at any tempo and with whatever drum kit you desire, then record a few bars of it as a single, short midi track in GB. "Select" that "song", hit the GB export function and chose the "Open In" option. Hit that button and the "Share Song" window opens. Check the uncompressed (.aiff) audio quality file option, hit the "Share" button, and the loop will automatically open in AudioShare as an uncompressed .aiff audio file. There it can be auditioned, named, edited, stored, trimmed, etc., and/or copied directly into general pasteboard, from which it can be immediately dropped into MTS (no iTunes needed) as a fully editable percussion track (or in lieu of a boring metronome). Pretty slick, very versatile....and completely free!!

Some upgrades are quicker than others!

This can actually be done on any iPad daw with any drum app as this method only imports an audio file not the midi notes that created it so complete editing is not possible as this event is an audio mix down of the separate drum parts so editing is limited to wav editing, in other words you can not remove the hi-hat hit if it falls together with any other drum part like the snare. So by removing or editing that Hi-Hat hit you also affect the snare. In order to have full control of the drum loop for editing you would have to import one piece at a time. Ie. Trk.1 snare Trk.2 kick Trk.3 hi-hat ect. This way you have full control of your loop mix and can apply effects to the individual drum parts rather than affecting the entire drum loop. Allowing you to set a nice reverb for the snare while leaving the kick dry. :|
