New Computer Question?

Post by uncle808us »

I am about to empty my bank account, and donate to Apple who is direly in need of money.
This is what I'm thinking of getting as my Old 2009 MacBook Pro gets more and more shaky "unwell" as well as not being able to use Metal.
21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display
Hardware
3.0GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
8GB 2400MHz DDR4
1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
Radeon Pro 555 with 2GB video memory
Will this runMultitrack Studio OK?
Thank you for reading and leaving an opinion should you want to.

I'm sorry, it's too weak configuration.
You should get Xeon CPU in order to even start MTS.
And just 1TB HDD? Man, are you insane! That's not enough to record 2000 hours of music!
Radeon Pro 555!? Dude, seriously! MTS requires AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 for VR Graphics!
And with that amount of RAM, you will get seriously slagish MTS.

The CPU isn't the problem, (although if you are investing for the future, get the fastest you can), it's the transport of data which means your 1TB HDD at 5400 RPM will be a bottleneck.
For music I have an old i7 Intel processor with 250gb SSD for the OS and other progs, and a second drive of 750gb for interim storage which is more than enough. As far as video is concerned
I have no idea what you need.
Although you are dealing with large files, the old addage "bigger is better" doesn't always apply, "faster is better" is what you're looking for. External storage is cheap these days.
