Is there a way to start a new alternate take from the web browser view
on a smart phone?
If not, it would be very helpful to add such capability or an Aux button
as in the tablet interface.

You can remap one of the buttons in the Studio-->Remote Control window. The Solo button would be a good candidate I think.

Great! I didn't look at the remapping hidden subpanel...

I tried tonight but not clear what to do.
I have selected Alternate Take as Action (under Details)
and turned on the Learn flag.
Then if I press the Solo button on the smart phone browser,
the event is learned as Note 19 channel 1
But when I try to use the Solo during recording
the Alternate Take is not enabled.

I think you need to clear the Solo action.

There's an '!' on a line which has a MIDI controller which is mapped to multiple actions.
