How do you....

Post by firefly »

Hello everyone....

Can anyone tell me how to compress just part of a signal? For example, if I just wanted to compress frequencies above 5k but leave the signal below 5k alone?

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Easiest way, find a Multiband Compressor plugin, set it for what you want to do in one of the bands.

Another method, place an EQ in front of a standard compressor plugin, set the EQ for cutting everything below that 5K mark and let 'er rip. In this method you may want to clone the track first and then play the original back at the same time. Also may help to put the reverse of the above EQ on the original track such that everything above 5K is attenuated.

But a Multiband Compressor would be the best way to go, likely you can find one on KVR.

MTS has the "Band Effect" plugin, which can do the same thing, open it up and place a compressor in the first slot, set the Band Effect to pass the band of interest.

Lots of ways to skin that cat.

Thanks, Mac. I'll look for the plugin first.
