Giel answered my question about changing a chord track to a midi track, Which by the way is fasinating. How does it "MTS" know the name has changed and for it to ignore the chords?
any way...
how do you change a drum pattern track to a midi track? Is this still the proper way?

You can click the track name box and save it as .mid.
