Apply to track: apply to selection only?

Hi,
Would it be possible to have the option to apply MIDI FX to just a part of a track rather than the whole one?
When the plug in is taking in MIDI notes from the track itself, those are lost unless the track is duplicated which might be expensive in terms of resources. It would be great, also in terms of workflow, to be able to just copy a few bars and applying the MIDI FX just to those.
